Artist Info

"When making a painting, the essence of nature, non-physical reality, and being combine. The images may vary in depiction from representational to conjured impressions emerging from the collective unconscious. 'Supernaturalism', a name given to my work, describes the mysterious interaction of forms amidst the churning natural arena. In these altered surfaces, the life force struggles in a delicate balance of beauty and fear, power and identity. My preference is oil paint; however, acrylic, sand, charcoal, and found objects lend themselves to my work. My passions send me searching for places unaltered by man which fuel the inspiration of my creativity."

Artist review by Lori Lothian, Journalist

"The contemporary work by Charles Lawrance is fiercely provocative and delightfully disturbing. Cultures tribal and modern, beings human and animal, meet on canvas and invite the viewer to draw conclusions about the surreal nature of reality. At times playful, (Power Lunch)*, and other times profoundly mystical, (Transcendence)*. Lawrance manages to capture imagination in the net of his palette and brush. Not for the pastoral minded, this artist's Daliesque view of the world makes for art that rivets and challenges. Warning: Hang a Lawrance piece in your home only if you enjoy heated conversation the work is sure to spark."
